Metro Trains Melbourne
Work environment intersected with customer experience as Metro Trains Melbourne embarked on a design journey with ERD to express the essence of their organisation and retain their operating contract.
Time, transition, movement. These are the things that matter to the Melbourne commuter, and became the inspiration behind our signage design at head office. Photographic imagery depicts the spectrum and diversity of Melbourne’s urban landscapes, with a colour palette referencing surfaces, fabrics and materials across four levels. The clever mix of translucent and opaque films, with geometric collages and stylised photography, creates spaces offering privacy to suit.
Just as the office environment was plussed, this report, celebrating eight years of Metro’s achievements, features clever embellishments elevating an already impressive concept, including an intricate emboss on laminated silver with typography evocative of destination screens on the rail network, and a gate fold revealing two booklets; ‘Arriving’ detailing past achievements, and ‘Now’ discussing future strategy.
A Minister’s Pack was key to remaining Melbourne’s rail operator of choice, so ERD pulled out all stops to achieve maximum impact.
Expressed through a continuous band of colour and photography – the customer journey was central to the visual language. Tactile folders, custom kits, and clear gloss foil debossed onto printed pearlescent buckram came together in a highly technical, hugely successful production process.
